|Attainment of regional living wage|
Moreno Valley College (MVC) earned Strong Workforce Stars recognition in the Agriculture, Water, and Environmental Technologies sector for its Wildlife Fire Behavior and Weather program. These are introductory courses offered by MVC for company officers for fire-related classes; 100% of students who participate in this program attain the regional living wage.
The Wildlife Fire Behavior and Weather program is so successful because of the quality instructional method, instruction mode, and community engagement.
First, the instructor who teaches in and leads the program has a diverse background and is both experienced and motivated. The instructor employs a unique pedagogical style that conveys information in multiple ways to help students better retain the information. Second, the curriculum used is a standard, state-approved curriculum that directly aligns with the industry’s requirements and standards. Third, the program has a highly engaged advisory committee with members from local fire agencies to support the labor-market needs. And finally, the program is located off-site at a joint training facility with Riverside County Fire Department, where students experience onsite hands-on training.
