The Challenge

Colleges within the region are not aware of the resources available to them through the DWM network. Likewise, DSNs want to better understand how to best serve the individual campuses.

The Solution

All of the region’s key talent (regional chair, deputy sector navigators, SB1070 & Prop 39 project directors) travel together to visit one of the region’s colleges.

The campus visit begins with a tour of the college. Key talent visit CTE classrooms and labs, and they experience many features unique to the campus and community. Following the tour, key talent meets with faculty and administrators over lunch for an information exchange. Key talent members present about Doing What MATTERS for Jobs and the Economy and discuss their regional projects and roles. College faculty share about their programs, highlighting opportunities and challenges. After a robust Q&A session, key talent and faculty gather in smaller, industry-focused groups during which the seeds of a richer, more meaningful regional collaboration are sown.

Outcomes

College leadership, faculty and key talent walk away from the gathering with a richer understanding of colleges’ needs and available resources to meet those needs. Additionally, relationships have been built.

So far, road shows have been held at Palo Verde College, Copper Mountain College, Barstow Community College, Mt. San Jacinto College, and San Bernadino Valley College
